The historic town of Launceston is just a short 12 min drive away from the cottage through some beautiful Cornish Villages.

Here you will find a very beautiful high street and central square full of local vendors shops. Whether you pop into town to climb the castle grounds, do some retail therapy, or try the local grog in many of the pubs dotted around town, there is something for everyone!

Launceston Castle was built in 1070 by William The Conqueror’s half brother and is a great example of a Norman Motte-and-Bailey Castle.

Launceston is one of the most important towns in Daphne du Maurier's novel Jamaica Inn

The Natural Fibre Company is a British wool mill based in Launceston and is the only small-scale full range textile mill in the UK.

A former student of Launceston College was actor Sir Roger Moore.

In the early 19th century, Launceston gave its name to the settlement, Launceston Tasmania, which is now the second largest city in Tasmania, NZ.

There are several great places to eat and drink within the surrounding villages, Launceston town and further afield should you wish to venture out. Although a lot of guests are happy to just grab supplies en route to their stay (a full kitchen & fridge freezer provided), sometimes it's nice to have a little treat... you are on holiday after all! Below are some of our favourite places and close by stops near to the cottage.

What To Do

Liberty Barn is situated right in the middle of the north Cornish and the south Devon coastline, meaning any setting is just a short drive away. With so much on the doorstep, from hiking on the moors, surfing the beaches, exploring some quaint Cornish villages or having some retail therapy in Plymouth, there will be something different to explore every time you stay at Liberty Barn.
